Finding your way through the legal system is difficult. Many people don’t know where to turn when a legal problem arises. For nearly 110 years the El Paso County Bar Association has helped people navigate through the legal process to ensure that all in the community have access to justice.
Our most successful community program is the Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS). The LRIS is an over the phone referral service for anyone that is seeking to obtain legal counsel. Our service is the only American Bar Association accredited program in the State of Colorado.

We screen our member attorneys to ensure that you are referred to a qualified attorney with substantial experience and a clean disciplinary record. We assist people everyday with their legal problems and help point them in the right direction. We have attorneys who specialize in many areas of law including family, civil, business, estates and probate, bankruptcy and employment.
We assist those in the El Paso and Teller County region in Colorado.
How the program works:
- Our trained interviewers assess the caller’s situation and determine the most appropriate way to proceed
- The caller is then either referred to a LRIS panel attorney, government agency or community resource, depending on the nature of the legal problem.
- If the caller is referred to an attorney, the first half-hour of the attorney-client consultation will cost $40.00.
- All calls are treated confidentially.
