The Family Immigration Services program at Catholic Charities of Central Colorado provides affordable immigration legal services to low-income individuals and families.  We are seeking a volunteer attorney to work with the Director of Family Immigration Services on asylum, special juvenile immigrant, and humanitarian crime victim cases and on removal defense. Experienced attorneys who are seeking new opportunities in this meaningful and challenging area of law are welcome to apply. Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required. Our program is recognized by the Department of Justice, and includes one attorney (the director), three DOJ-accredited immigration counselors, and an administrative assistant. We represent clients from all over the world with a wide variety of immigration matters, including affirmative applications for asylum, temporary protected status, special immigrant juvenile status, DACA, family petitions, permanent residency, citizenship, visas for crime victims (such as U Visas, T Visas, and protection under the Violence Against Women Act). We also defend clients in removal proceedings and on appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals. The position duties and hours are flexible depending upon the candidate. Every effort will be made to find assignments that match the volunteer’s talents and interests. The position may include the opportunity to pursue predicate orders in family court for abandoned, neglected, or abused children eligible for special immigrant juvenile status, applications for adjustment of status, assistance with asylum case development, and other legal matters. The volunteer may also work on community outreach and policy issues. Immigration law is a constantly changing field, and other opportunities may arise during the volunteer’s service.
