Governor to appoint new district court judge
The Fourth Judicial District Nominating Commission has nominated three candidates for a district court judgeship created by the retirement of the Hon. Robert L. Lowrey. The vacancy will occur on April 1, 2021. Nominees Yolanda Fennick and Laura Findorff, both of Colorado Springs; and Brian Fields of Black Forest were selected by the commission on Feb. 23, 2021.
Under the Colorado Constitution, the governor has 15 days from Feb. 24, 2021, within which to appoint one of the nominees as district court judge for the Fourth Judicial District (El Paso and Teller counties).

The Colorado Supreme Court has proposed amendments to the rules and regulations governing continuing legal and judicial education in Colorado. The Colorado Supreme Court will conduct a hearing on the proposed rules and regulations on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. via WebEx. Written comments on the proposed changes should be sent to Cheryl Stevens, Clerk of the Colorado Supreme Court, at 2 E. 14th Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80203 or emailed to cheryl.stevens@judicial.state.co.us. Persons wishing to speak at the hearing should notify Ms. Stevens by email cheryl.stevens@judicial.state.co.us or by telephone 720-625-5150. All comments and speaking requests must be received no later than Monday, March 29, 2021 at 4 p.m. For more information regarding the proposed amendments, click here .
In summary, those amendments to the CLE rules and regulations include, in part, the following:
Effective January 1, 2021, the Supreme Court amended Colo RPC 1.5 and rescinded Colo RPC 23.3 with new provisions for contingent fee agreements and a new form disbursement statement, which together with the form agreement can be downloaded in Word here.
RULE CHANGE 2019(16) COLORADO PROBATE CODE FORMS Form 872 Amended and Adopted by the Court, En Banc, December 6, 2019, effective immediately.

To complete your 2021 registration, please click on the 2021 registration link found on our website: Welcome to the 2021 Colorado Attorney Registration System. The deadline to complete the 2021 registration process is on or before February 28th, 2021. Effective November 24, 2020, the Office of Attorney Registration will temporarily cease providing walk-in service in response to COVID-19. Please plan accordingly and have your payment mailed in or submitted online timely to avoid penalty. A penalty will be assessed if your payment is not received in our office on or before February 28, 2021. If you are not sure how to use our online registration system, you can wait a few weeks to receive more information from us in the form of a postcard. In early December, the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Registration will mail Colorado attorneys a secure postcard. The secure postcard will include all of the information necessary to log in to our website and complete your 2021 registration. If you don’t receive the postcard by mid-December you may either go to our website (coloradosupremecourt.com), email or call the office of Attorney Registration. Contact information can also be found below. This year’s registration includes an online demographic survey that is anonymous and takes only 2 minutes to complete. You will be able to access it at the end of the registration process or you can complete it now by clicking here.
Reasons to pay through our online registration system:
INACTIVE ATTORNEYS 65 YEARS OLD OR OLDER: You must complete the online registration statement; if you remain on inactive status, you will not owe any registration fees. CLE Deadlines: December 31st - The last day of the year is the deadline for completing CLEs for attorneys with a compliance period ending on December 31, 2020. CLE credits completed by December 31, 2020, can be entered into the online system until January 31, 2021. An emailed reminder will be sent out by mid-December with more instructions. Effective November 24, 2020, the Office of Continuing Legal & Judicial Education, will temporarily cease providing walk-in service in response to COVID-19. Please plan accordingly if your CLE compliance period ends on December 31, 2020, to avoid penalty.

Order 2020-31 RE Jury Trials
Order Excerpt: "...Pursuant to Chief Justice Directive 95-01 (Authority and Responsibility of Chief Judges) and in compliance with the Updated Order issued by the Chief Justice on July 24, 2020, I hereby suspend all jury trials that are currently scheduled to begin on or before January 8, 2021. This Order is also premised on the COVID-19 orders previously issued by federal, state, and local authorities.
This order does not apply to any ongoing jury trials, which continue to employ extraordinary measures to ensure the safety of all courtroom participants.
