Litigation of Immigration Detainers

1 General CLE

Speaker: Arash Jahanian, ACLU Attorney. Arash was the lead litigator in the law suit against the El Paso County Sheriff. He will be presenting on the successful ACLU litigation pertaining to immigration detainers here in El Paso County.

Talk: El Paso County has been the site of recent immigrants’ rights battles, reflecting the issues affecting the civil rights of immigrants throughout the country.  This presentation will focus on the ongoing litigation regarding the El Paso County Sheriff’s past practice of holding individuals at the request of federal immigration officials.  It will also cover other forms of local cooperation with immigration authorities, including agreements to have deputies act as ICE agents (which used to happen in El Paso County), and to house immigrant detainees in jails (which still happens in El Paso County).  The presentation will also touch on other immigrant’s rights issues including conditions of confinement.

Cost: EPCBA Members are free and members of the public can attend for only $10! Invite your friends and neighbors.

Lunch & Location: Attendees order from the full menu and separate checks are given to each attendee. The lunch is held on the 2nd floor of Jack Quinn’s. We apologize for the inconvenience, but there is no elevator access, only stairs. Please let us know if you need accommodation.
